A quotation that says "$0.42 per bottle, MOQ 10,000" is not a quotation. It is a starting position. By the time the order lands, the number that matters is the landed cost per finished, decorated, packed bottle on your warehouse floor — and that number is assembled from about eleven separate lines.
| Line | What to check |
|---|---|
| Bottle unit price by quantity tier | Tiers should be stated at real breakpoints, with the price at MOQ and at least two tiers above. |
| Mould or tooling cost | One-off. Ask whether it is reusable and whether it covers spare cavities. |
| Sample and courier cost | Whether pre-production samples are free, and who pays the freight. |
| Closures, pumps and inserts | Priced separately or included? This is the single most common gap. |
| Decoration | Per colour, per pass, per side. Screen printing is usually priced per colour; hot stamping per area. |
| Plate or screen charges | One-off per colour, or charged again on every repeat order. |
| Export packing | Poly bags, dividers, cartons, pallets, stretch film — and whether pallets meet ISPM 15. |
| Price basis | Tax inclusive or exclusive, currency, and the exchange rate date. |
| Trade term | EXW, FOB, CIF or DDP — and for FOB, the named port, which is usually missing. |
| MOQ and below-MOQ surcharge | The MOQ is often stated; the surcharge for going under it usually is not. |
| Validity and price adjustment | How long the price holds, and what happens if resin moves. |
Take two quotes for a 500 ml HDPE shampoo bottle with a pump and one-colour screen print, 20,000 units:
| Item | Quote A | Quote B |
|---|---|---|
| Bottle | $0.40 | $0.44 |
| Pump | Not included | Included |
| Screen charge | $90 per order | $120 one-off |
| Poly bag + carton | Extra, $180 | Included |
| Pallet | Buyer supplies | Included, ISPM 15 |
| Term | FOB | FOB Shantou |
| Effective per unit | ~$0.49 + buyer-supplied pallets | ~$0.45 |
Quote A is 9% more expensive once the missing lines are priced in, and it still leaves you responsible for sourcing pallets. This is not usually dishonesty — suppliers quote what they habitually quote — but it means unit price alone tells you almost nothing.
Read a quotation by rebuilding it. Bottle, closure, decoration, packing, tooling, freight, currency — seven components that add up to one landed cost. The supplier who shows you all seven is not necessarily cheaper, but they are the one whose number will still be the same at the end of the order.
We will recommend resin, gram weight and neck finish, and quote unit price + mold cost within 24 hours.
